A modern energy park with three wind turbines is being developed in Schwennenz, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – expandable to eight.

3 Wind turbines (WTs) are being constructed in Schwennenz.
41.000 MWh The Schwennenz wind park annually produces a total capacity.
11.700 Schwennenz thus supplies an average of households annually.
31.000 Tons of CO₂ are saved annually on average.

Show responsibility. Create added value. Act together.

EEF always considers energy projects in dialogue with local communities. It is important to us that we not only produce electricity but also create societal and ecological added value.
In Schwennenz, surrounding communities benefit directly from payments under §6 Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and are also offered participation options according to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern participation law.
Furthermore, EEF specifically supports local structures – through donations, sponsoring, or infrastructure funding. Measures are developed together with local contacts.
Ecological compensation is also central: New habitats, renaturations, and targeted conservation actions strengthen nature and biodiversity in the long term.

Support measures in use:

  • Restoration of a standing water body

A threatened small water body is preserved from silting up. The central area of species-rich wet meadowland is surrounded by deciduous trees on three quarters of its shoreline. An adjacent group of alder and ash trees in the southwest will remain as a protected biotope. This measure ensures long-term water and habitat quality and ecologically enhances the area.

  • Targeted tree planting

In compensation for necessary tree felling, site-appropriate trees are replanted in a 1:3 ratio – a targeted measure to promote biodiversity and enhance the landscape. The plantings are tailored to the ecological conditions of the site and contribute to the long-term structural and climate stability of the area.

  • Ecological account

About five kilometers from the project site, EEF is involved in an ecological account area in the "Gelliner Bruch" region. The goal is to rewet the area by specifically raising the water level and dismantling existing drainage facilities. This measure promotes the return of typical moorland and wetland habitats, thus making a significant contribution to regional nature conservation.

Transparency

creates trust

EEF stands for an open and collaborative project approach.
That’s why we make every step – from planning to commissioning – fully visible: clearly structured, easy to follow, and openly communicated.
In Schwennenz, we’re taking you behind the scenes: all phases, milestones, and the current project status at a glance.

(Project) milestones

Project Highlights

Approval & EEG Award

Completed

With the approval under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) in March 2023, the successful EEG award in December 2023, and the amendment approval in August 2024, the essential prerequisites for implementation are established. This milestone forms the foundation for the economic and legal viability of the Schwennenz project.

Project Takeover

Completed

With the acquisition of the project including secured land and a legally binding permit in early 2025, EEF lays the foundation for the Schwennenz Wind Park. The location is ready for technical, planning, and legal implementation. This milestone marks the transition from project development to concrete realization on site.

Application Phase 2

Completed

To expand the Schwennenz project, EEF will submit a permit application in June 2025—just three months after the project acquisition—for five additional wind turbines. This step specifically enhances the development potential of the site.

Start of construction

Construction start

Completed

On June 16, 2025, the construction of the Schwennenz Wind Park will commence. Initially, the designated areas will be mowed, measured, and precisely marked. This marks the transition from the planning phase to the actual implementation on site—a pivotal milestone towards commissioning.

Access roads & crane pads

Under implementation

In July 2025, the expansion of the access roads and construction of the crane pads will begin. These construction measures create the necessary infrastructure for the later installation of the facilities and mark the start of the actual construction activities on site.

Cable Construction

Cable construction

Under implementation

The commencement of cable construction started in September 2025. This phase involves laying the cables for grid connection of the facilities – a crucial step for the subsequent feed-in operation. The implementation is carried out in close coordination with the responsible network operators and according to the applicable technical specifications.

Foundation construction

In planning

The foundation construction for the three wind turbines is scheduled for late 2025 to early 2026. After completing the ground works and preparing the excavation pits, reinforcement, concrete pouring, and backfilling follow. The foundations provide a stable basis for the later construction of the facilities.

Installation of facilities

In planning

The delivery of main components takes place at night to avoid disrupting traffic. Each facility is scheduled approximately four weeks for assembly and installation. The construction is weather-dependent and may be temporarily interrupted during strong winds.

Park festival

In planning

A joint festival is planned for the commissioning of the Schwennenz Wind Park. With the park festival, we aim to celebrate the successful completion of the construction phase and further strengthen dialogue with the region – as a visible sign of collaborative project development and successful cooperation.

Operational phase

In planning

Following the completion of all construction work and successful commissioning, the Schwennenz wind park enters regular operation. The facilities now produce renewable electricity for the region as planned. The operational phase is accompanied by regular maintenance, continuous monitoring, and close interaction with the region.

WEA

Technologies that set standards

In the Schwennenz wind park, thoughtful planning meets proven technology. Wind turbines from the manufacturer Vestas are used. The choice of systems follows the conditions of the already approved project, allowing for swift implementation.

Types of systems used:

  • Vestas V162 / 6.2 MW / Hub height: 166 m

  • Vestas V136 / 4.2 MW / Hub height: 166 m

  • Vestas V117 / 3.45 MW / Hub height: 141.5 m

For further expansion, plans are in place to utilize the latest generation of facilities – focusing on technological advancement and maximized efficiency. A long-term repowering is envisaged to keep the site up-to-date even in 20 years.

  • High Performance

The deployed units are designed for maximum energy yield – even under moderate wind conditions.

  • Efficient Design

Aerodynamically optimized rotor blades and intelligent control systems ensure reliable power production.

  • Durability and low maintenance

Robust materials, field-tested technology, and integrated self-diagnosis reduce maintenance requirements and ensure stable operation for decades.

Our responsibility does not end with the last kilowatt-hour. We plan the dismantling from the beginning – ecologically thought out and in the spirit of circular economy.
Facilities will be professionally dismantled, materials recycled or reused, and lands restored. This keeps the ecological footprint small – even after the project ends.

Our Partnerships for Schwennenz

The Energy transition 2.0 occurs in rural areas – and it's meant to have an impact there. Therefore, EEF relies on trustworthy partnerships – with experienced companies and local stakeholders throughout the entire project cycle. This way, we create not only new energy but also local value creation and perspectives on site.

Perspectives of Our Companions

With the commencement of construction, our project is finally taking concrete shape, a step that required extensive preparation and effort. It was important for us to involve partners from the region and to design the implementation as close to the site as possible. In doing so, we not only contribute to the Energy transition 2.0 but also strengthen regional value creation.
