Does infrasound produced by wind turbines cause illness?
No, scientific studies have so far found no evidence that infrasound from wind turbines causes health damage. Infrasound – sound below a frequency of 20 Hertz – is a natural part of our environment and is also produced by everyday sources such as wind, road traffic, or household appliances like refrigerators. The infrasound produced by wind turbines is already so weak at a few hundred meters away that it lies far below the human threshold of perception. Studies from the Federal Environment Agency confirm that there is no evidence of health impairments caused by this infrasound. Additionally, continuous scientific investigations are conducted to further substantiate the current research situation on infrasound and to consider any new findings at an early stage.
